2026 Charitable Grants awarded

Each year, the Parish of St Helier provides several charitable grants to charities, schools, community groups or organisations situated in the Parish that can demonstrate that the grant will benefit and enhance the lives of St Helier parishioners.
This year, we are delighted to be able to award five grants of up to £5,000, which were agreed by Parishioners at the Parish Rates Assembly.
We received 24 applications for the above grants this year. The allocation of the grants was determined by the Constable of St Helier and the Procureurs du Bien Public based on where they believed the money would be best utilised for the benefit of St Helier parishioners.
This year the grants were awarded as follows:
Rouge Bouillon School: The Parish has a long association with Rouge Boullion School. When it opened on 7 July 1908, it sat next to the existing Brighton Road school, which was run by the Parish. In 1913, the Parish of St Helier transferred Brighton Road school, along with other parish schools, to the States of Jersey. The school has supported the Parish in providing a polling station for Island elections, and so it is a pleasure to be able to provide the school with a charitable donation to assist with the costs of enabling year 6 children, the opportunity to experience an off-island residential week.
Caring cooks: Provide £50 vouchers to families for food and fuel. The vouchers can be redeemed at Coop, Island Energy, or Jersey Electricity and are aimed at preventing families from choosing between heating and eating. Referrals are made through schools, and over 2,000 vouchers have been distributed to date. We all know how families are struggling with the increased cost of living, and by providing the charity with this donation, they have agreed to prioritise the funds to assist St Helier families.
Brighter futures: Support families facing challenges and difficulties, which help to create strong family relationships where parents can support each other, and support parents in their role as their child’s key educator. We all know how important it is for all children to experience the best start in life, and the funds will help the charity to assist St Helier families who may be struggling.
Grow: is the island’s largest and most inclusive community smallholding, providing a blueprint for social and therapeutic horticulture and sustainable food production. The donations will assist the charity in providing a pedestrian access route away from Surville Cemetery and to create minibus parking in the field, which will enable more children and schools to visit and participate in the facility.
Beresford Street Kitchen: is a social enterprise which provides structured education, training, and employment programmes for people with learning disabilities. BSK Enterprises has three main areas: Beresford Street Kitchen, BSK Catering and BSK Print Works. Every penny generated through sales goes back into the charity. The charity is seeking to switch its gas-related cooking facilities to electric and have requested a donation for funds towards an electric induction oven for the kitchen café. They have managed to secure 50% of the cost from a Jersey Business grant, and the Parish is covering the remaining costs. This grant is in line with the Parish’s carbon neutrality aims, one of which is to promote and encourage parishioners and businesses to reduce their own emissions.
