What do I do if I am sick on Election Day?

If you are sick, incapacitated or have challenges with illiteracy, or if you are a carer of someone who falls into these categories and cannot have voted by post, or by a Pre-Poll Home Visit, you can request a home visit.

Parishes can send an Official to you to take your vote so that registered voters are not prevented from participating due to sickness. Please advise the Parish as early as possible on the day to ensure that we will be able to accommodate your request.

To arrange a visit, please call 01534 811811. If you cannot get through, please leave a message, and a member of the team will call you back as soon as possible.

Hustings

Hustings are public meetings where election candidates answer questions directly from voters.

They give voters the chance to:

  • Hear each candidate’s priorities
  • Compare their views side-by-side
  • Better understand each candidate’s views
  • See how candidates act under pressure
  • Find out how well candidates understand key topics and how they would tackle challenges or difficult issues

All hustings are FREE to attend and open to everyone. Candidate-organised Hustings are filmed and made available on the Vote.je YouTube channel for playback.

Pre-poll Home Visit

If you are eligible to vote in the election but are unable to attend the Pre-Poll Voting Office due to illness, disability, or illiteracy (as set out under Article 42(11) of the Elections (Jersey) Law 2002), you may request a home visit from an Officer of the Judicial Greffe to enable you to cast your vote.

To approve a home visit, the Judicial Greffier must be satisfied that applying for a postal vote would not have resolved your inability to vote; that it would not have been reasonable to expect you to apply for a postal vote; or that you could not reasonably have foreseen that you would be unable to vote in person.

Please note that the Pre-Poll Voting Office will be located at St Paul’s Centre in St Helier and will be open from 26 May to 29 May, between 8:45am and 5pm, and on 1 June from 8:45am until 12 noon.

To request a home visit, please download and complete an application form Early Voting (Pre-Poll) | Vote.je, then return a scanned copy by email to [email protected], or post it to the Postal & Pre-Poll Voting Manager, Judicial Greffe, Royal Court House, Royal Square, St Helier, JE1 1JG.

Applications must be received by 12 noon on Friday 29 May (applications received after this date may not be able to be processed).
