Allix Shipyard update

The Parish took ownership of Allix Shipyard on 26 January, with the priority of making the area safe before bringing back the charm and character that make the space so special.

As we began the initial safety works, it became clear that repairing the old tarmac would leave the area looking patchy and untidy throughout the summer months. For that reason, we made the decision to fully resurface the path instead.

You’ll already have noticed some improvements; overgrown planting has been removed, the old path has been lifted, and a new surface is now in place. This will be left to cure for twenty-eight days before the antiskid finish is reinstated, so the path retains its familiar look and feel. The ground lighting has also been repaired and will once again illuminate the ship beautifully.

During the curing period, we’ll continue with the restoration of the ship itself, making it safe, refreshed, and ready to be enjoyed again.

Weather permitting, we are aiming to reopen Allix Shipyard at the end of April. Once open, we will leave the space untouched for the summer so that everyone can enjoy a clean, safe and vibrant park.

Phase two will begin after the summer season, when our focus will turn to restoring the park’s unique features, including the mosaic, anchor, and storm gates.
