What do I do if I notice any trees fallen or debris obstructing the road?

What do I do if I notice an area is flooding?

Please contact the Government of Jersey on 01534 725351, States of Jersey Police on 01534 612612 (option 2 and 4), or the St Helier Duty Centenier on 07829 722227.

What should I do if there is an accident on the road?

If you are involved in the accident stop where the accident has occurred or pull over at the closest safe place to do so and call the States of Jersey Police on 01534 612612 for non-emergency or 911 if it is an emergency.

If you are a witness to the accident pull over at the closest place to do so and call the States of Jersey Police on 01534 612612 for non-emergency or 999 if it is an emergency. Do not put yourself at risk by trying to help.

Will my bins still be collected?

To protect the safety of our parishioners and team there will be no refuse, glass, recycling or cardboard collection on Thursday 2nd November 2023.

Refuse, glass and cardboard collections scheduled for Thursday will now take place on Saturday.

Recycling collections scheduled for Thursday will be collected on Friday.

Please do not put your bins out on Wednesday night / Thursday morning.

Will the Town Hall be open?

The Town Hall will be closed to the public on Thursday 2 November. Please only call the Town Hall if you have a storm related issue or query.

We are however available should a place of refuge or shelter be required if someone becomes displaced. To access this service please call Connor Burgher on 07700 322550.

Is it safe for me to walk my dog?

Government advice is to stay at home on Thursday 2nd November, they recommend that you do not make any unnecessary journeys, especially around coastal areas.

Is it safe for me to drive?

Government advice is to stay at home on Thursday 2nd November due to the large amount of rain that is forecast. Please take extra care around coastal areas as debris and water may come over the seawall.

Will any roads be closed?

Given the severe weather conditions, coastal routes including Victoria Avenue and Havre des Pas are expected to close from 5.30pm onwards on Wednesday evening.

If any roads are closed throughout the storm, please refer to the States of Jersey Police and Parish of St Helier Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages where updates on road closures will be posted as and when they happen.

What can I do to prepare?

Residents, particularly those in coastal areas, are encouraged to prepare their properties for the storm. This includes securing loose items, ensuring drains and gutters are clear, and making necessary repairs to any areas that could be damaged by high winds. Please keep windows and doors closed.

The Parish will endeavour to keep you updated through their Social Media channels and sthelier.je. You can also stay up to date by visiting gov.je and following both the Government and the States of Jersey Police on Facebook or X (formerly Twitter).

What should I do if I have a vulnerable neighbour or relative?

If you know of any vulnerable parishioners, we recommend checking in on them to ensure that they are okay and have everything they need. If they require more support then please get in touch with our Community Support Team on 01534 811854 or at [email protected].

Will shops be open?

The advise issued is that all islanders remain indoors for the duration of the storm. Most non-essential stores will be closed. The opening hours of some supermarkets have been affected, please check social media for the latest announcements.

Is parking free?

Parking in car parks and on-street will be free for the duration of the disruption.
