Rates reminder
The Parish of St Helier wishes to remind ratepayers to pay their bills to avoid the surcharge.
Parish rates bills should be paid by Friday 21st October 2022 to avoid the surcharge of 10% which is prescribed by law.
At the end of last week, there were almost 9,000 bills outstanding.
Any ratepayers who have difficulty in settling their bills are asked to contact Phil White at [email protected] or 811833.
The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, said: “I am conscious that ratepayers may be feeling the pinch with the rising cost of living. This is one of the reasons that the Parish kept the domestic rate frozen at the same level for the 9th consecutive year. I urge anyone who thinks they may struggle to pay their bill on time to contact the staff at the Town Hall. I would also encourage people to think about setting up a direct debit to help spread the cost of next year’s Rates bill.”
Notes
Rate bills for 2022 were issued on 21st July 2022 and sent to all Parish of St Helier ratepayers.
Ratepayers must pay the rate on demand even if a review or appeal application has still to be determined.
In accordance with Article 27(1) of the Rates (Jersey) Law, 2005, a surcharge of 10% will be added to all amounts not paid within 3 months of the date of the bill. Therefore, any rates not paid by Friday 21st October 2022 will have the surcharge added.
