Month-long amnesty for unwanted firearms and weapons

Islanders who have unwanted firearms, ammunition or other dangerous weapons will be able to surrender them safely and lawfully during a month-long amnesty taking place throughout November.
The firearms and dangerous weapons amnesty, running from 1 to 30 November 2026, offers a confidential way for people to dispose of items they no longer wish to keep, including inherited firearms, unwanted collections and other dangerous weapons.
The amnesty is being organised by the Connétables of Jersey’s 12 parishes, including St Helier, as part of a wider review of firearms legislation and administration.
St John Connétable Andy Jehan, Chair of the Comité des Connétables, said:
“The amnesty is intended for anyone who has a firearm or dangerous weapon that they are no longer entitled to possess or no longer wish to keep. It’s a safe opportunity to surrender unwanted weapons.
“As a Comité des Connétables, we recognise the importance of making the surrender process straightforward, lawful, accessible and safe for all members of the public who want to surrender a firearm, rather than continuing to keep it.
“Importantly, the amnesty provides protection from prosecution for possession of an unregistered firearm or other weapon, firearms parts or ammunition where the purpose of possession is to surrender the item under the amnesty.”
There is no charge for the surrender and destruction of firearms, ammunition or other dangerous weapons during the amnesty.
Items accepted include firearms, ammunition, firearms parts, knives, axes, swords, spear guns, BB guns, bows and arrows, as well as maces, pepper sprays, antique weapons and decorative weapons.
How to surrender an item
- Anyone wishing to surrender a firearm, dangerous weapon, firearms part or ammunition should call 07797 818495 during November 2026. The dedicated phone line will be available 24 hours a day.
- Designated Registered Firearms Dealers will arrange for the item to be collected safely.
- Members of the public are asked not to transport firearms or dangerous weapons to Parish Halls, police stations or any other location unless specifically instructed to do so.
- The Connétables are encouraging anyone with an unwanted firearm or dangerous weapon to take advantage of the amnesty and arrange for its safe surrender rather than allowing it to remain unsecured, unwanted or forgotten.
- For more information, call 07797 818495 during the amnesty period.
