Roads Committee and Roads inspector Elections

Parish of St Helier, Town Hall

A Parish Assembly will be held at the Town Hall at 7pm on Wednesday 6th December for the following business:

  • Election of five members of the St Helier Roads Committee
  • Election for each Vingtaine of two St Helier Roads Inspectors

At the Assembly the Parish will seek nominations of candidates for both positions, to complete a three-year term of office.

To be eligible to stand for election to the Parish Roads Committee or as a Roads Inspector, candidates must be a member of the Assembly, either a Rate Payer, an Elector or a Mandataire (a nominated representative of a company who pays rates to the Parish), be aged 18 years or more, and be proposed and seconded from the floor on the evening by members of the Parish Assembly.

Candidates for Roads Committee will be required to set out their manifesto in a short three-minute speech, before taking questions from the Assembly.  A ballot will be held, and the successful candidates will be required to take an oath before the Royal Court.

The Roads Committee is made up of five elected members, plus the Dean and the Constable who is chair. The Roads Committee meet once a month on a Wednesday morning to discuss a wide range of matters, particularly in relation to roads and open spaces, the meeting is open to the public.

A Roads Inspector is required to ensure that any defects to the roads, public highways, public facilities and encroachments within their Vingtaine are brought to the attention of the Parish for remedial work to be undertaken.

The Roads Committee is required to attend the two Visites du Branchage, which take place in June and September each year.

Roads Inspectors are requested to attend a quarterly meeting and are required to attend the September Visite du Branchage each year.

Both the Roads Committee and Roads Inspectors must participate every six years in the Visite Royale, which is taking place in St Helier in August 2024.

Anyone interested in putting their name forward for election to the roles should contact Alison Roberts, Parish Secretary [email protected] or Tel: 811880 for further information.

A convening notice for the Assembly will be available on the Parish website nearer the date of the Parish Assembly
