Embark on a guided promenade-style walk through the historic streets of St Helier. Discover Jèrriais street names, their meanings, and the rich stories they hold. This journey is told from the perspective of a Jersey resident forced to leave the Island before Occupation, reflecting on themes of displacement, cultural identity, and the loss of one’s native language.
The experience ends with an optional stop at the Language Room in Jersey Museum, where you can deepen your connection to Jèrriais through personal stories and reflections. Every participant will receive a beautiful, specially commissioned map of the walk, created by a promising young Jersey artist.
Your support is invaluable – together, we can keep the Jèrriais language and heritage alive.
This walk lasts approx 1.5 – 2 hrs and is suitable for everyone. However, we kindly ask that you leave your dog at home (guide dogs excepted).
With grateful thanks to the Bailiff’s Chambers for supporting this event, part of the Liberation 80 celebrations.
